Top Value Fund Funds, Ranked July 2026

Last updated 1 July 2026 · vs April 2026 · How the score is calculated

Value funds: buying cheap, with the patience that requires

Value funds buy stocks that the market is undervaluing relative to fundamentals: low P/E, low P/B, high dividend yield, often in out-of-favour sectors like metals, PSU banks, or capital goods. The category is for investors who believe the market overreacts to short-term news and that disciplined buying of cheap stocks beats trend-following over full cycles. The academic case is strong. The Indian market context is harder: value as a factor has gone through long stretches of underperformance (2017-2020) when growth stocks dominated. Investors who bought value funds at the wrong time have waited 4-5 years for them to pay off. How to read this table. Compare the 5-year return to the BSE 500. Value funds should win over full cycles; if a value fund has trailed the broad market over 5 years, the manager is either picking the wrong cheap stocks or the market has not yet rewarded the right ones.

How the Value Fund ranking is calculated

Each Value Fund fund in the table is scored on a blend of five factors: 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year returns, the 3-year Sharpe ratio, and the 3-year maximum drawdown. The 5-year return carries the heaviest weight; the 1-year return carries the lightest, because a single year is mostly noise. Funds with less than three years of history are kept out of the 3Y / 5Y windows but are still listed if they have a 1-year track record.

The underlying NAV data is sourced nightly from the AMFI daily NAV file and the AMC factsheets. The score is re-run every month after the latest upload. Two funds with a score within 5 points of each other are essentially interchangeable for retail purposes; pick from the top 3-5 names in the list, not just the top 1. The full formula, weights, and edge cases are in the rankings methodology post.

How these Value Fund funds differ from each other

Value funds split into deep value (buying the cheapest 10% of the market, often cyclicals) and GARP-style value (reasonable price for growth at a reasonable rate). Deep value has higher drawdowns; GARP has lower return potential. Match the type to your patience.

Who should invest in Value Fund funds

  • Patient investors with a 7+ year horizon and a contrarian temperament
  • Anyone whose core portfolio is too growth-heavy and needs a rebalance
  • Long-horizon investors who remember that value has won over every 15-year window in Indian history
